Metal planters: Which material should I choose?
Many buyers may ask this question when they need to purchase metal planters for certain projects. Rest assured, in this post we introduce the most common materials and surface treatments so that you could have an initial understanding and pick an option that fits your marketing strategy better.
1. The most cost-effective option: iron/steel with epoxy powder coated surface
Iron and carbon steel are relatively more economic than other metal materials and easier to process. The powder coated surface offers the color and texture that the buyer expects to suit the project or the market, and protects the surface against rust.

2. Another cost-effective option especially suitable for outdoors: corten steel planters
Corten steel (=weathering steel) objects are very popular in the recent years. The rusted finish makes it perfectly weather resistant in the outdoor area and offers an attractive rustic/industrial style. Sunlight and rain? They make the corten steel surface even nicer!

On exposure to the elements, the corten steel will begin weathering and gradually develop its own striking patina with a brown color that darkens over time. We also offer the option of pre-rusting, providing an accelerated weathering environment that forms an even oxidized surface that begins from an orange color and darkens over time.

3. Greater rust resistance and strength: stainless steel pots, powder coated or electroplated
Stainless steel has better rust resistance and strength comparing to other metal materials. The powder-coated or electroplated finish makes the material even more resistant and durable. And accordingly, its material cost is much higher. This option is recommended for luxury projects such as shopping malls and hotels. However, stainless steel also has a much higher material cost, and its surface treatment usually increases lead time.

4. Greater rust resistance and lower weight: aluminum pots, powder coated
Unlike iron or steel which develops brown rust when exposed to elements, aluminum simply oxidizes and develops some light-colored marks that are much less visually noticeable. When powder-coated the product gets an optimum resistance to rust.

Choosing the right material and surface finish is a very important decision that affects both the product quality and price. Clients will need to find an optimum balance between the cost and the quality. If you are still unclear, our team can also provide you with a solution based on your budget and expectations.
